Ginning of seed cotton
The freshly or first picked cotton has seeds in it, is called seed cotton. After picking the cotton fiber has to  be separated from the seeds . This process y which separated the seeds from the fiber is known as Ginning. It is  carried out mechanically.
There are two types of  Ginning process
Ø  Saw ginning: It is used mainly for short and medium length fiber.
Ø  Roller ginning: It is often preferred for longer fiber .  It is a slower and mostly cost process.

Faults and  impurities of cotton fiber
Ø  Neps :  Neps are  small groups of entangled fibers which form at cotton processing. In  spinning neps are difficult to eliminate or to comb. It create problem during textile processing.
Ø   Coils: Slightly roped groups of fibers. Mainly short fibers , dead fibers ,  and ill fibers are forming this type of fault.
Ø   Fiber strings: Strongly roped groups of fibers of different shape. It create problem in spinning.
Ø   Trash: Mainly bits of leaves , ball parts , steam etc.
Ø   Motes: Small immature seeds and their fragments.
Ø   Crushed seeds:Parts of seed crushed during primary goal cotton processing.
Ø  Bearded motes: Bits of  seed hulls with fiber.
